juste avant il y avait le combat de asloum contre un argentin de 45kg; a la fin de la soirée les gens ce souvenait du combat féminin ce qui est très rare.

Boxe: Holyfield en pourparlers avec Tyson pour une revanche de 1997

 

LONDRES (AFP) — L'Américain Evander Holyfield, ancien champion du monde des poids lourds, a déclaré qu'il était en pourparlers avec son compatriote Mike Tyson pour organiser la revanche de leur combat épique de 1997, dans un entretien publié jeudi par le quotidien britannique The Guardian.

 

"Il y a eu des discussions entre nous", a affirmé Holyfield, 45 ans, qui avait échoué dans sa conquête du titre mondial WBO des lourds face au Russe Sultan Ibragimov, vainqueur aux points, en octobre dernier à Moscou.

 

"Mike a demandé à Jeff Fenech, qui l'a entraîné, de me contacter il y a quelques mois. Jeff affirmait que Mike voulait m'affronter de nouveau, mais il avait besoin d'avoir mon accord", a précisé Holyfield. "Tout dépend de ce que cela peut nous rapporter. Si je dis que je vais affronter à nouveau Mike Tyson, je vais m'attirer beaucoup de critiques car j'ai déjà dit que je ne voulais plus l'affronter", a-t-il toutefois tempéré.

 

"Jeff m'a dit que, pour Mike, le plus important était de savoir si j'accepterais de l'affronter à nouveau. J'ai répondu oui, probablement, si le prix y est", a expliqué Holyfield.

 

Lors de leur combat mémorable de 1997, le deuxième (victoire Holyfield arrêt 11e en 1996) entre les deux hommes, Tyson, aujourd'hui âgé de 41 ans, avait arraché à Holyfield un morceau d'oreille avant d'être disqualifié.

Hier j'ai regardé thrilla in manilla et je savais pas qu'Ali avait tenu des propos aussi négligeant envers Frazier.Ali se disait reresentant des noirs mais pour moi lorsqu'il traitait Frazier de gorille il traitait tout les noirs qui ont taffé comme Frazier l'a fait.Donc voila mon estime pour Ali a baissé un peu sur ce coup

Fan pas vraiment, moi c'est plutot Tyson mais j'aimais bien voir dela Hoya combattre, je trouve qu'il avait du style. Je reconnais aussi la valeur de Floyd mais actuellement c'est plutôt le style de pacquio auquel j'adhère (il à fait mal à Oscar).

Mayweather est très vantard en passant je trouve.

Beau match au bout des 12 reprises, 10 points décart environ pour chaque juge, Mosley aurait pu le mettre KO au 2eme, mais il a laissé passer sa chance.

Trainer Freddie Roach is confident the mega-fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. will happen this year. He thinks the fight will land in October or November. Roach appeared on an ESPN radio affiliate 790TheZone. Top Rank's Bob Arum is flying out to the Philippines to support Pacquiao during his political campaign. Roach says the veteran promoter will sit down with Pacquiao to discuss the Mayweather fight.

 

Roach thinks the two sides will resolve the drug testing drama and make the fight happen. The two sides were unable to reach a deal earlier this year when they couldn't agree on the cut-off date for the random blood tests. Mayweather's side wanted the random Olympic style drug tests to continue until 14 days prior to the fight. Pacquiao wanted them to end 24-days prior to the fight. Roach is willing to meet them in the middle, at 17 or 18 days.

 

“Yes, it is going to happen. I just talked to Bob Arum yesterday. Bob is flying to the Philippines to make Manny the offer. We are going to make this work the best we can. I think we have enough ammo to get it done quickly because there is a lot of money out there. WeÂ’re going to meet in the middle [on the drug tests]. They wanted 14. We wanted 24. [We'll do] 17, 18-days," Roach said. "They are talking October, November. Definitely [to happen] before the year is out."

In a meeting over coffee at a local cafeteria, some Downriver Area boxing enthusiasts talked to this writer about reports emanating from the Philippines that Manny Pacquiao is now amenable to Floyd Mayweather, JrÂ’s demand for a 14- day blood testing cut- off period which was raised during the previous negotiations of their proposed mega fight.

 

“I hope this one is for real, I can’t wait for the mega fight to happen,” says John F. of Wyandotte, MI as he downed his second cup of coffee of the day. Jeremy D. of Allen Park, MI in between b**** of his hot hash browns echoed his sentiments and added, “Let’s keep our fingers crossed that these two fighters will get into the ring in November. Boxing needs this fight and fans want this fight.”

 

There is no fight out there that can really catch the fans’ imagination that they are willing to fork their hard-earned money to see it than a Manny Pacquiao- Floyd Mayweather, Jr mega fight. There is no other fight out there that warrants a huge interest from boxing fans all over the world than the Manny Pacquiao- Floyd Mayweather, Jr. mega fight. Yes, there is really no fight out there that can catch even the casual observers’ attention like a Manny Pacquiao- Floyd Mayweather, Jr. mega fight that even Deedee L. of Detroit, MI, a non- boxing fan but is willing to buy the pay-per-view if the fight ever materializes, says: “I don’t care who will win the fight but I just want to be able to see it when it happens.”

 

There is no question that a Manny Pacquiao- Floyd Mayweather, Jr. extravaganza will be the biggest, if not one of the biggest fights in the history of boxing. There is no question that it will break boxingÂ’s all- time gate and pay-per-view records. This is what the boxing world wants and this is what the promoters should give to boxing fans to settle the score on who is really the best fighter on the planet.

 

But this dream fight can once again turn into a nightmare even before it gets off the ground, if the egos, pride and inherent hatred among the people surrounding both fighters suddenly creeps in. If the people behind both fighters will once again begin shooting through their mouths without regard for consequences and trade barbs in public, then talks for this fight will be dead rather than resurrected even before the negotiation began.

 

In their previous negotiations, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. proposed a “random Olympic- style” drug testing to the camps of Manny Pacquiao so as to “level the playing field” since they suspect that the Filipino superstar’s success in the ring is due to performance- enhancing drugs (PEDs) to which the Pacquiao camp vehemently denied and countered that they will only abide of such tests if the supervising state athletic commission like the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) warrants it.

 

Both camps tried to work out on a compromise and Manny PacquiaoÂ’s camp offered a 24- day cut off period for the said drug testing which the Mayweather camp countered with the original 14- day cut off period prior to the fight. Then the representatives of both camps started blaming and hurling accusations at each other, and to make the long story short, the fight fell through and both fighters moved on, fought and won one- sided fights against different opponents.

 

In retrospect, many boxing insiders opined that the reality was that both fighters were not yet ready to face each other at the time- Floyd Mayweather, Jr. coming off a lackluster performance against a bloated Juan Manuel Marquez and thus need another “tune- up” fight to get ready for the fight of his life. On the other hand, Manny Pacquiao was not really 100% sold on the mega fight as his mind was being consumed by his desire to run for a seat in the Philippine Congress.

 

Now that both fighters have accomplished what they are supposed to do, then we can say that there will be no more obstacle to the mega fight if they really wanted it to happen.

 

And Manny Pacquiao has just upped the ante and says he is now open to the proposed 14- day drug testing cut off that the camp of Floyd Mayweather, Jr once proposed. The onus is on Floyd Mayweather, Jr's if he will take Manny PacquiaoÂ’s offer without further excuses or new demands that would prevent this mega fight from ever happening.
