The Guardian says United have contacted Porto about Bosingwa, the overlapping full-back who is regarded at Old Trafford as a possible replacement for Gary Neville. The Portugal defender will not come cheaply, with Porto's president, Pinto da Costa, saying it would need an offer of at least £18 million to persuade him to sell the Congo-born 25-year-old.
That figure might deter United but Carlos Queiroz, the club's assistant manager, has had at least one discussion with Costa to register Sir Alex Ferguson's interest in a player whose form has taken him into the national team.
Ferguson has been encouraged by some of Bosingwa's recent remarks about his desire to join his compatriots Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani at a "sensational club".
